Ore. Community Health Centers receive federal aid

March 27, 2009

GRANTS PASS, Ore. - Oregon is receiving $5.9 million in federal funds to help community health centers.

The money comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and is intended to help meet the growing needs of the uninsured and keep health centers fully staffed.

The Siskiyou Community Health Center in Grants Pass will receive more than $280,000 over the next two years.
That money will go to three programs, it's dental, mental health, and outreach services.

CHC's locations in Medford, Ashland, and White City will receive more than $262,000. Those branches have made layoffs, but plan to use the money to help retain their current staff.

La Clinica is also receiving more than $278,000.

CHC says though it is grateful for the money, it won't solve the growing need for affordable health care. Meeting that need will only come from continued support from the local community.
