Governor Visits White City
Gov. Ted Kulongoski met with legislatures and low-income families at Community Health Center's White City clinic on Monday, March 25 to hear concerns and announce that his staff is drafting an administrative rule to expand the eligibility period for children enrolled in the Oregon Health Plan from six to 12 months. The change would take effect Jan. 1.
Kuglongoski said his healthcare priorities include simplifying the application process for the Oregon Health Plan. "Healthcare has become a luxury for some people, " said White City resident Holly Ruddock, whose eighth-grade son, Jessey received care for his heart arrhythmia through Community Health Center. Ruddock went on to explain that health care has never been affordable for her family and has often taken a lower priority when stacked against mortgage and vehicle payments, fuel costs, electricity and other immediate needs.
